Full Role Overview
The Family Discipleship Pastor is a full-time pastoral role focused on helping First Baptist Church of Clearwater
build a strong culture of biblical discipleship among children, students, and families. This position is designed for
a highly relational leader who can help bridge the gap between Sunday church life and discipleship in the home.
This role moves beyond simply running programs. The Family Discipleship Pastor will help equip parents to be
the primary spiritual leaders of their children while also providing leadership, direction, and oversight for the
church’s next-generation ministries from birth through 12th grade.
In this setting, the Family Discipleship Pastor will serve as the primary leader of youth ministry while also helping
guide and strengthen children’s ministry through volunteer leadership. He will work closely with the Senior
Pastor to build a unified, gospel-centered, and biblically faithful discipleship pathway for the next generation.
This is a meaningful opportunity for a man who desires to serve in pastoral ministry, gain valuable ministry
experience, and help shape a healthy family discipleship culture in the life of a local church.
Key responsibilities
Family Discipleship Leadership - Help develop and strengthen a unified discipleship vision for children, students,
and families. Encourage a birth-to-graduation approach so that ministry to children and students is connected
and intentional. Equip parents to disciple their children at home through biblical encouragement, practical
resources, and personal support.
Youth Ministry Leadership - Serve as the direct leader for middle school and high school ministry. Teach the
Bible faithfully and clearly in youth gatherings, Bible studies, and discipleship settings. Build relationships with
students and encourage spiritual growth through mentoring, conversation, and pastoral care. Plan and lead
youth-related events such as camps, retreats, outreach opportunities, or mission-oriented activities as
appropriate.
Children’s Ministry Oversight - Support and oversee children’s ministry leaders and volunteers. Help ensure that
children’s ministry is safe, organized, gospel-centered, and aligned with the church’s broader discipleship goals.
Encourage continuity between children’s ministry and youth ministry, so families experience a more unified
approach to spiritual growth.
Parent Equipping - Help parents see their God-given role as the primary spiritual leaders of their children.
Provide tools, conversations, and occasional teaching opportunities that encourage family discipleship during
the week. Build trust and healthy communication with families in the church.
Volunteer Development - Recruit, encourage, and help train volunteers who serve in children’s and youth
ministries. Support volunteers in ways that promote safety, faithfulness, teamwork, and consistency. Help
maintain child protection and ministry safety expectations for all workers serving with minors.
General Pastoral Ministry - Serve alongside the Senior Pastor in the life and ministry of the church. Assist with
broader pastoral responsibilities as needed, which may include hospital visits, occasional preaching, weddings,
funerals, or other ministry opportunities appropriate to the role and experience of the candidate.
Qualifications and theological alignment
We are seeking a candidate who demonstrates spiritual maturity, pastoral character, and a sincere desire to
serve Christ through the local church.
Education - The church will consider applicants who hold either a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Bible
college or a degree from a seminary. A Master’s degree is welcome, but the church is also open to candidates
who are earlier in ministry and desire to continue developing theologically and pastorally.
Spiritual and Pastoral Qualifications - The candidate should demonstrate a clear testimony of saving faith in
Jesus Christ, show evidence of a genuine call to pastoral ministry, meet the biblical character qualifications for
church leadership described in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, display humility, teachability, maturity, and a vibrant
personal walk with Christ, and love the local church and desire to shepherd children, students, and families with
biblical conviction and pastoral care.
Theological Alignment - The candidate must be willing to become a member of First Baptist Church of
Clearwater, support and faithfully practice the teachings of Scripture, align doctrinally with the church's
convictions, and affirm and serve in keeping with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
Reporting structure
The Family Discipleship Pastor will report directly to the Senior Pastor.
He will serve alongside the Senior Pastor and under his pastoral leadership, taking primary responsibility for
youth ministry and providing leadership support and oversight for children’s ministry volunteers and leaders.
This structure is intended to provide both accountability and support as the Family Discipleship Pastor grows in
ministry and helps strengthen the church’s discipleship efforts among children, students, and families.
